Dear Governor Rick Scott:
My name is Ashley Palumbo; I am a resident in Florida and a registered voter. The law you have recently passed about do drugs interrogatorying well-being recipients does not sit well with me for three main lands.
The outgrowth being, that it is unconstitutional. The fourth amendment is supposed to protect us all against wild searches and seizures. Being poor cant be a justification for suspending someones civil rights. It is also rattling stereotypical, you said Studies read people that are on welfare are higher users of drugs than people not on welfare. Statistics deliver in Florida drug use in the welfare people is no different than the general population.
The second reason being, if recipients run short a drug trial and becomes ineligible for assistances, their children will brave out as the end result. If an individual fails a drug screening, the administration is taking bullion away from children that are affected by their parents lack or responsibility.
The third reason being, the cost involved with drug testing would result in even more money from taxpayers and the state. If the average cost of the test will be about $ 30.00, recipients must pay for their test and if they pass the state reimburses their money. Who is going to pay for the cost for state employees to give the test, the potential costs to the state of the rehabilitating drug users who rely to be able to reapply for benefits, and the increased cost of expanding the Department of gentle Services? Taxpayers will be paying for all of this. Statistics show the numbers show taxpayers spent $118,140 to reimburse people for drug test costs, at an average of $35.00 per screening, and the states give the axe loss was $45,780. Taxpayers will be paying more money to drug test the recipients
