The Articles of Confederation was a first attempt at a constitution for the United States while it was fighting to gain independence from the British governing body in the Revolutionary War. First proposed in 1776 by Richard Henry Lee at the Second Continental Congress, the Articles of Confederation were adequate to maintain some stability for the democracy through the end of the war. However, it proved to be a highly inadequate form of giving medication when it could not provide for the stinting and political demands of a developing nation.
