-Immigration in the 1800s-
In the 1800s thousands of woman, men and children of all ages immigrated to the linked States, leave behind family, friends, houses, pets, memories, and more. I extremity to focus on a 17 year old girl Im going to call bloody shame. She has gone to school until 6th grade. She helps her family by working on their potato farm.
In 1840 a distemper destroyed the potato crops forcing them to move somewhere else where they could start a new life. She was only one out of the thousands of people who immigrated to the United States. She arrived at Ellis Island on a ship with her family. Ellis Island was a tiptop of entry to the United States. This port of entry was so magnanimous that the dining room could hold up to 1,000 people at a time.
At 17 Mary was trained for demesne limiting her job opportunities. She was faced with many businesses that did not want to higher Irish people.
Prepare her for work in gross sales or waitressing. The only place she could really find a job at would be farming or in factory work. Her family settled in a cheap flatcar on the edge of New York City.
Her age wouldnt bear upon her experience entirely her lack of schooling might. Her English was not truly good and farm work did not trick up her for sales or waitressing.
Factory work was rough but her family needed the money. She has little time to go out and pay back friends her own age because she works 12hrs a day.
